COMPETITION INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES

Balalayam “Violin Competition 2020” is being conducted for a noble cause of promoting musical culture and nurturing future musicians from various fields. Our “Celebrity, musical genius, violin maestro Kalaimamani Shri. Embar Kannan”, has consented to review the final entries and also interact and dine-in with the “TOP 20 FINALISTS” of the competition with a genuine intent to motivate and share some great tips to the future violinists of the world.

This competition is being conducted to support the families and children of the Music fraternity those who were affected by Covid-19.

Kindly adhere to the following rules and regulations of the competition strictly. Judges decision shall be final and no appeals shall be entertained or honored.

  1. The discipline shall be “Violin” and the style shall be Free Style for Round 1. The style for the Semi-finals and Finals shall be intimated when the judgement is announced for Round 1.
  2. Participants can be from any country, remember to select your appropriate age group.
  3. There shall be five age groups (5 – 8 yrs, 9 – 12 yrs, 13 – 16 yrs, Open category and Expert categories respectively). All contestants above the age of 16 shall be participating in open category.
  4. The top 4 winners from each category will be eligible to participate in the online “Talk, Interact and Dine with our Prime guest Kalaimamani Shri.  Embar Kannan” and the dates shall be intimated to the Winners appropriately.
  5. The contestants will be judged solely based on the submitted recordings and not their profiles or past performances.
  6. The last date for submission of entries for Round 1 is 31 December 2020, 11:59 PM. All performances shall be “SOLO” . Kindly use Shruti box or Tanpura Droid app for Shruti and make sure that the volume is not too high. Your violin sounds should be clearly demonstrated. Contestants must submit VIDEO ENTRIES only Video should be recorded from your camera / mobile and should be made available to be viewed online. You must upload your entries on “YOUTUBE” and provide us with the link when your application form is submitted.
  7. Download links of video files must not be provided and are not eligible. In your Youtube settings, make sure that your video is public. You can go to : VIDEO MANAGER → videos → Basic Info → from the dropdown menu,  please choose “Public” or “Unlisted” instead of  “Private”.
  8. Kindly choose a place with a plain background or screen before recording and DO NOT MAKE ANY VIDEO EFFECTS OR EDITS for your entries. “Pause and Record” must not be done and if found violating, your entry shall be disqualified.
  9. Kindly mention YOUR NAME with the RAGA, THAALA, AND COMPOSER’S NAME OF THE PIECE at the beginning of your recording. The contestant and their playing of the instrument must be fully visible.
  10. Your entry must not exceed 3 minutes duration and if your video goes 30 seconds beyond the allotted time, your entry shall be disqualified and the submission shall be treated as “Null & Void”.
  11. Fill out the application form in full, incomplete application forms shall not be entertained and the participation fee shall not be refunded whatsoever after submission.
  12.   13. Kindly connect with us on https://www.facebook.com/Balalayam, we shall tag you upon publishing your / your child’s entry (Not all entries are published and it is the sole decision of the judges).  You can share the post from our page to all your friends and network, even FB likes and shares have a bonus score of 10 points based on public appreciation and comments. In case of a score tie between contestants, the social media points shall decide the winner.
  14. All participants/contestants shall receive a “Participation Certificate” and the Top 3 Winners from each category shall receive a “Letter of Appreciation” from Balalayam exclusively signed by Kalaimamani Shri Embar. S. Kannan.
